Building a Simple, Effective Skincare Routine

You do not need ten products to see results. Here is how to build a routine that actually works, in the right order.

A good skincare routine is less about the number of products and more about using the right ones consistently, in the right order.

Start with the essentials

Three steps cover most needs: a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser suited to your skin type, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen for the daytime. Master these before adding anything else.

Order matters

Apply products from the thinnest to the thickest texture. In the morning: cleanse, treat (for example a vitamin C serum), moisturise, then sunscreen. At night: cleanse, treat (such as a retinol or exfoliating acid), then moisturise.

Introduce actives slowly

Strong ingredients like retinoids and acids give real results, but they can irritate skin when overused. Start two to three nights a week and build up as your skin adjusts. If you notice stinging or persistent redness, scale back.

Be patient and consistent

Most active ingredients take four to twelve weeks to show visible change. Take a photo when you start so you can track progress honestly. Consistency beats intensity every time.
